Journey to Our Roots: The Rising of Okoto Kekeres is a vibrant dance drama that marks a powerful rite of passage for Bi-Okoto’s young artists as they transition into the pre-professional level. After two years of rigorous training in West African dance, drumming, and cultural education, the Okoto Kekeres take the stage not only as performers, but as emerging cultural ambassadors and peer educators.
Through a dynamic journey across West Africa, the production weaves together traditional and contemporary works—Sorsone, Koukou, Sinte, Kpanlogo, Agbeko, and Èṣin Mi D’Africa—each representing a stage of growth: community, resilience, discipline, expression, courage, and identity. As both drummers and dancers, the Okoto Kekeres guide the audience through this transformation, revealing how rhythm and movement become tools for self-discovery.
